Japan is one of our very important markets and Rakuten is one of the the major e-commerce platforms in Japan. We recognized a huge opportunity to increase our market share and brand volume by cooperating with Rakuten.
What has your experience been like selling on Rakuten’s marketplace?
Participating in promotional events like Rakuten Super Sale can significantly increase sales, and we find it effect to align strategies with ECC through weekly meetings, including advertising and marathon activities.
How has your sales or brand awareness grown since your opening?
Since we launched this store in August 2020, our sales had jumped by almost 3 times and it is growing year by year. And it has become one of the important sales channels in Japan.
What would you say to prospective sellers, on getting started selling?
Rakuten is a very localized e-commerce platform and needs to pay attention to the habits of Japanese consumers and localized copywriting materials.

In Japan, where barbecue culture predominantly revolves around yakiniku-style (open-flame grill), we aimed to spread the excitement of American BBQ.

We started from scratch without any knowledge and have been operating while receiving advice from the account manager. With various events happening every month, it's easy to implement sales strategies.

The decision to expand business into the Japanese market was made based on the recognition that the Japanese market is extremely attractive for our brand, especially due to the high affinity for fashion products and brand loyalty. Within the Asia-Pacific region, Japan is an extremely important market for DW. Initially we were focusing on the official website and physical stores as the main sales channels, then we identified the growth potential of EC malls, and chose Rakuten aiming to provide Japanese customers with our services and products, and convey the brand's philosophy.
What has your experience been like selling on Rakuten’s marketplace?
The experience of selling on Rakuten Ichiba Market was highly successful. Through the Rakuten Ichiba Market platform, we were able to build close relationships with our Japanese customers and directly hear their opinions. Additionally, by promptly responding to the platform campaigns and offering brand flagship store exclusive gifts tailored to the local market, we were able to gain trust and support from the local customers.
How has your sales or brand awareness grown since your opening?
Due to the impact of COVID-19, the category size of watches and accessories was temporarily affected, but signs of recovery are now within sight. With the spread of smartwatches, the traditional analog watch market is becoming increasingly competitive. However, DW is not only focused on watches but also accessories, striving to provide new value to Japanese consumers through the simple and timeless Nordic designs. After entering the Rakuten Ichiba Market, sales and brand recognition has significantly improved, which contributed to establishing our position in the Japanese market.
What would you say to prospective sellers, on getting started selling?
To all of those who are considering selling on the Rakuten Ichiba Market, especially overseas brands, Rakuten Ichiba Market provides a great opportunity. We recommend maximizing the opportunities on Rakuten by building relationships with Japanese customers, continuously improving your products and services, and meeting their needs and expectations.

Our ultimate goal is to maximize our distribution amount in the pen market and we recognized a huge opportunity with Rakuten as it is one of the largest e-commerce marketplaces in Japan.
What has your experience been like selling on Rakuten’s marketplace?
We have a thorough monthly review meeting with ECC and our vendor to optimize each KPI — including visit, CV, and ASP. We find it valuable to invest in advertisements products.
How has your sales or brand awareness grown since your opening?
Since we launched this store in September 2019, our growth rate has jumped for more than 10 times! We have been awarded Shop of the Month six times since 2021.
What would you say to prospective sellers, on getting started selling?
I would recommend starting as soon as possible — and in small steps — to get used to the robust system and features.
